Driving up to Rolling Hills Ranch in my mom’s champagne colored jeep we pull onto a street with horse crossing signs, something one does not see everyday in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. Aside form that, we know we have arrived when the smell of fresh cut hay wafts through the rolled down windows. The sight of horses grazing in the perfect green fields make us smile, the ranch has been occupied with them for over forty years.(http://www.rolling-hills-ranch.com) I have been coming here since the age of 8 when I would rent out one of the barn’s hack horses for an hour. Four years later for Christmas I received what is on the top of every little girls wish list, a pony. Well, not exactly a pony, but a horse named Flea. Flea is a Quarter horse/ Welsh mix and gets his name from the small brown flecks that interrupt his otherwise white coat of hair. We pull into the gravel parking lot and slow to a stop. We remove our shoes and quickly pull on our riding boots. After crossing a road and walking up a small hill the top barn is directly in front of us. I rush into the barn and am greeted by harmonious whinnies. I flick on the lights and greet each horse by name until I get to my own. By this time he is about breaking down the door. Flea is a bit of a brat and very impatient. I open the door and give him a pat on the nose and then when my back is turned he makes an escape. Flea is the Houdini of horses. It is not very hard to catch up with him because he only gets as far as the next bag of food or bale of hay. I catch him and he gives me a guilty look but, it is too hard to be angry at him. After returning flea to his stall I go to the tack room. The tack room is a small white brick building which houses all of the saddles, bridles, and any other riding equipment one could imagine. The space is overwhelmed with bins and buckets and step stools. I go to my bin and grab my caddy filled with Flea’s brushes and a few treats to spoil him with. I head back up to the barn and bring Flea out and tie him to one of the iron rods on his stall. He immediately begins to lip my pockets knowing I would not dare bring him out of his stall if a treat was not involved. I take the treat out and lay my hand flat and let his large furry lips tickle my hand as he takes the treat. Grooming Flea is always an interesting experience, mostly because he is white and enjoys to be dirty. He always has dirt in places that makes one question how it got there. Horses also love to roll in their own manure for whatever reason. As I brush Flea he begins to pull and knock things off his stall door. First, my sweatshirt, then the bag with my cell phone and keys in it, and any food bags full or empty. He really enjoys torturing his neighbor Doe with playful nips, Doe on the other does not enjoy it so much. Once Flea is clean, or as clean as clean is for him, I head back to the tack room. I pull my heavy leather saddle of it’s stand and grab my matching bridle off the wall. As well as my pink saddle pad, which everyone loves to torment me about since my horse is a boy. That is when the meowing starts. At some point in time, no one is really sure when, someone abandoned a cat on the farm. At the time she was just a kitten. Since then the calico cat was named Elizabeth and many of the riders there have taken compassion for her and have started feeding her. She is very vocal about when she wants fed and whenever that is she wants her food now. I put my saddle down on the ground and grab Elizabeth’s bowl. She begins rubbing on my legs and meowing over and over. I pour her food and then head to the bathroom to get some water for her. I put her bowl down on the ground and she immediately begins to chow down. Now that the cat is fed I pick my saddle back up and head back to the barn. Flea is still standing where I left him. I am sure he got in some kind of mischief while I was gone but sometimes it is better to just pretend he is a perfect angel. I lift my saddle pad onto fleas back and then I heft my saddle up there too. I tighten his girth and make sure to pull it as tight as I can get it. Then I try to get the shiny bit into his mouth, this is always a struggle. When the bit comes out Flea realizes he will soon have to do work. After about five minutes of a 100 pound girl fighting with a 1000 pound beast, I win. I lead him out of the barn and to a mounting block, also known as wooden steps for the vertically challenged. I climb to the top of the mounting block, place my foot in one stirrup and swiftly swing my leg over Flea’s back. It is now time to ride. I enjoy riding off-property the most. I cue flea to move forward and we our on our way. We pass the â€Å"poop pile† which is a gigantic pile of powerful smelling manure that sometimes catches fire in the summer, it’s lovely. We ride into a small gully where many geese live. The geese are not afraid of the horses but are very noises and fill the still air with obnoxious honks. After the gully we find our way onto the dirt trail and trot up the hill, I stop Flea in the middle to let him grab a crab apple from the branches of a tree and then finish to the top. From here, we make our way into the woods. The woods are dim with shade and every couple minutes thorns pull at my jeans. I spot a few deer running ahead and soon we are in an opening. I feel Flea’s excitement underneath me and decide to let him run through the field in front of us. Without any hesitation he lunges forward and were off. There is nothing as freeing as running horseback through a field with the wind blowing back one’s hair. We come to a stop and begin to walk again. There is a road a little ways up and I decide to take it. This road leads to a small creek, which the horses love to gulp out of on a hot day. We get to the creek and Flea dives right in. After a few seconds he decides he is not that interested and begins to paw at the water soaking me. We leave the creek and head home as the sun starts to set. I decide to take the road home and listen to the clip-clop of fleas hooves. His pace picks up once he realizes where he is. From the top of the hill I can see an aerial view of the farm. Horse playfully running around in paddocks, someone riding in circles around the arena, and lots and lots tractors. I reach the farm and ride Flea up to the barn and jump of his back. I undo his saddle and take it off to reveal his sweaty back, I then remove his bridle and slip his halter back onto his face. I lead him to the paddock and let him out for awhile to cool down. I go and buy a PowerAde from the vending machine and take up inhabitant on a picnic bench. My friend Danae comes to sit beside me looking tired and miserable, sporting her neon orange Rolling Hills staff shirt. She begins to complain about how much trouble the boys who work there give her, she is the only girl and gets bossed around quite a bit. Danae says she â€Å"hates her job but, it pays well and under the table.† She then tells me her sassy remarks back to them and we laugh and high-five. I watch as one of the workers comes and opens the gates of the hack field, where renters get to ride on a supervised trail ride. This signals that the hack horses are going to be let out for the night. Another worker opens the door of the barn and the horses begin to flood out. It is truly magnificent to watch. Some run while others walk, many whiney to their friends to say â€Å"wait up† or â€Å"I’m coming†. They run out in groups of two, three or five. Soon enough most of the field is covered in horses, they begin to roll and play or yawn and graze. Some run relentlessly looking for their friends and when they have found them they split up in their own herds. After telling Danae goodbye I go to the tack room and get some treats. I go to the paddock and call Flea’s name. He looks at me like â€Å"Are you talking to me?†. Usually we can compromise and he meets me halfway ready for his treat. I lead him back to his stall and close him up for the night. I pick up my saddle, bridle, and pad and take them back to the tack room. After putting everything away I make a bag of food for Flea. I measure his food and vitamins and supplements and shake them up in a zip lock bag. I walk back into the barn and all the horses call out from hearing the rustle of the food bag. I feed Flea his bag and he begins to eat, dropping more food out of his mouth lazily, than actually chewing it. I pat Flea on the nose and go to find my mom who can be found gossiping with her friends in the pavilion. She says her goodbyes and we walk through the barn, patting our horses on the nose. We shut out the lights and make our way back down the hill to the car. We climb into the car and take off our boots. We sit there for a minute discussing our rides, how the horses behaved, and whatever wildlife we may have seen. We pull away reluctantly from the barn and my mom beeps the horn even if no one is in sight. The barn is a type of haven for us to get away from the stresses of daily life so leaving is always hard. But, we know when we come back tomorrow our horses will be there not so patiently waiting for our company.

The problem lies in the difference of children raised by single parents versus children raised by both a mother and a father. Does a child need both parents? Does a young boy need a father figure around? Does the government provide help for single parents? What role do step-parents and step-siblings play? With much speculation, this topic has become a very intriguing argument. What people must understand is that properly raising a child does not rely on the structure of a family but should be more focused on the process or values that are taught to these children as they learn to mature. Children of single parents can be just as progressive with emotional, social and beha vioral skills as those with two parents. People claim that the only way for children to gain full emotional and behavioral skills is to be raised by both a mother and a father. This is a chilling percentage because it shows how little faith is put into a relationship before actually deciding to have children. Unfortunately not all single-parents take the time to perform the vital tasks needed to raise their children. Parents who think they would never be able to provide emotional stabil ity for their children by themselves should have taken the time to think this through before deciding to become parents. This article will teach you how to sell yourself to an ATS system and get your phone to ring for an interview. KEYWORD TIPS MOST IMPORTANT TIP FIRST: Use keywords that match the keywords in the job description! This means you’ll need to edit your resume for every job you apply for. No joke. I know this task is time-consuming, but it will pay off. Use keywords in context, in your experience section. ATS systems count the number of years of experience you have for the skills the company cares about. If you have â€Å"project management† listed in a bullet under a job where you spent 10 years, you’ll get 10 years of credit for project management. If you list it in a Skills list, you’ll get zero. So even if you have a separate skills list, be sure to include all your skills in your bullets as well! Whenever possible, put your keywords on page one and at the top of subsequent pages if any. They will be ranked higher in these locations. There’s no need to use every possible version of your keywords. ATS systems are so smart that a keyword search automatically finds all relevant words. For example, a search for â€Å"RN† will also recognize â€Å"nurse practitioner† and â€Å"registered nurse†; a search for â€Å"attorney† will capture â€Å"lawyer† and â€Å"general counsel† and â€Å"GC†; and a search for â€Å"finance executive† will find â€Å"CFO† and â€Å"Controller.† The systems are also smart enough not to count â€Å"executive assistant† when searching for an â€Å"executive.† Abbreviations are okay. It doesn’t matter if you insert periods or not, and you don’t need to write things out if they are common. For example, either â€Å"MBA† or â€Å"M.B.A.† is sufficient, without having to write out Masters in Business Administration. If a job description calls for expertise with a specific program, such as MS Word, list the specific program, not just MS Office. And remember to put it in your Experience, not just in a Skills list! FORMATTING TIPS FOR ATS-COMPATIBLE RESUMES You can use any font and style- bold, italics, shading, even white text. All will be read as text. You can submit your resume as a Word or PDF document. In a PDF, any information that is editable in a PDF editor will be read by an ATS system. Don’t use the columns feature. Period. Use tabs instead. And dont use text boxes. They wont be read. Use more space between major sections that you do between jobs. Be consistent! This will help the ATS figure out what’s what and know when to look for a new job or a new section. TIPS FOR ORGANIZING YOUR INFORMATION Don’t combine several sections together. Use just one word or phrase in each header, and keep them standard: Profile or Summary; Experience or Work History; Education; and Certifications. If you want to insert continuing education courses under the Education section, that’s fine. A â€Å"Skills† section doesn’t have particular value but you can include one. Never omit the dates of your experience. The positions won’t be read or counted for anything. If you’ve held more than one position at a company, list the company name multiple times- once for each position. Otherwise the ATS won’t know how to read the information. One trick you can use is to put the company name in white text so it’s not visible; but if you do this, make sure to insert enough space before the white text that the ATS will know it’s a new position. As a general rule, unless specifically requested to do so, do NOT make the first page of your resume your cover letter. This advice seems not to hold true universally, however. I have a client who applied to a position through LinkedIn Easy Apply using this strategy, and she got a call for an interview the next day. If you have held many short-term jobs, combine them wherever possible. ATS systems are programmed to recognize job hoppers, and you don’t want to be one of them! I know that it is through effective communication and respective approach that I will be able to apply my hospitality skills in my career. Among all the subjects that I have taken, it is Service Management that aided a lot n preparing me for my career. It is because I believe that a large part of Hospitality Management deals more on the services rendered. It is on how the services are organized and implemented that customer satisfaction is garnered. The food, drinks and other visual products of the service only serve as tangible proofs but beyond that, it is the kind of service that make people say that â€Å"it has a global quality†. Thus, it is very important that the skills and potentials required for rendering service is developed and enhanced. During the internship, I treated my managers and my coworkers as my customers and as a service provider, I did my best and used my skills and talents in rendering services that will give them utmost satisfaction. That is by obeying instructions, by doing tasks the right way and the way they wanted it and by completing requested works on or even ahead of time. In that way, I was able to practice how to render high quality services to other people. When I entered Nevada Restaurant Association as an intern, the management had an agreement that I will be spending 200 hours working in the organization. We also agreed that no amount will be paid for the internship and I will be working in the company until I completed the 200 hours. Perhaps for some people, 200 hours of work maybe hard especially to those who have no interest in their job. Yet, for me, 200 hours work seemed to be not enough. It is because for me, there is a lot to learn about the company and I, as a very aspiring person want to learn all the things that I can learn about the company. For me, it is the learning and the experiences that encouraged me to have enough strength to work on my tasks and be utmost motivated to prepare myself for my profession. In my own point of view, working in Nevada Restaurant Association is a big challenge for me. First of all, it is my first time to work with professional people and second, it is also my first time to apply the skills that I have learned in school in the real world. I admit that I felt the pressure of my work. There are times during my first days in work that I doubted if my work is good enough to satisfy them and if it will meet the standards set by my managers. Like any other person, I do not want, as much as possible, to fail in my work and receive negative feedbacks from my managers. It is true that at first, I thought that my job is difficult but I realized, as days went by that what I was doing was fun. I realized that the pressure is just there because it is my first time. Later on as my work get clearer and clearer for me, I realized that I am blessed because I was given the opportunity to work in a prestigious organization. In my entire stay in the company, I felt the enjoyment and fun of working with various people, meeting new acquaintances and establishing new contacts. Most of all, I learned one of the most important lessons, that failure is a key to success. As a fresh intern, I admit that I also made some mistakes in my work and my managers usually pointed it out. Though it is sometimes frustrating especially if I have already exerted too much effort to finish the job, I realized that it is my failures in my work that pushed me to do better and be more deserving for my profession. I realized that if I really want to learn, I should learn to be patient enough to continuously try my best to make my work better. Mistakes are not there to discourage me but they are there to direct me to my potential improvements. I learned that as a person full of aspirations, I should not focus on my mistakes and instead, I should focus on what my managers are telling me because they are the ones who know better than I do and they can direct me to my improvement. By keeping that in my mind, I was able to make my tasks a lot easier, fun, and enjoyable. The pressure that I felt during my first days disappeared as I learned to love my job and seek learning from it. I think that it is my positive outlook in life that I am able to transform the pressure into motivation and burning aspiration to finish my intern and keep what I have learned until the time that I need to apply it again. In addition, the organization’s culture taught me important things that helped me to be a better person. First of all, I learned to be a competitive person in a creative way that showcased my talents and abilities. Since the organization aimed for producing skillful, world class and competitive students and trainees, I, as an intern has adopted this behavior and I was able to apply it in my everyday life. For me, this behavior is very essential because I believe that when I enter the real world after graduating from college, I will be facing a lot of people who may have the same skills that I have and in order for me to get accepted, I must stand out from the rest by being competitive in the best that I can be. In accordance with the culture of the company, I also experience a lot of good things in the company. Even though I am just an intern, my coworkers did not treat me as one and in fact, they treated me as their coworker already. They have shown me the appropriate respect, encouragement and motivation. Although authority is there, their attitude of being friendly and very open gave me the comfort and confidence of getting along with them and voicing out my side during meetings and or brainstorming. The light and stress-free atmosphere motivated me to work harder and be better and better everyday. Their advice served as my guiding principles during my stay and it really helped me a lot in accomplishing my job. Most of all, the most important thing that I learned from the organization and that I think I will never forget is the act of sharing. As an organization, Nevada Restaurant Association believes that the ultimate responsibility of all hotel and restaurant employees is to render their customers with world class services. In order to achieve that quality, they must share their knowledge with each other and aimed for the same goal. For them, being competitive is not about winning over other people but showcasing the best talents a person has. Nevada Restaurant Association believes that by helping each other, by sharing ideas and by teaching it to those who are willing to learn that the entire community of hotel and restaurant employees will be able to completely render high quality and world class services. The penalties for violating the anti-kickback statute are quite severe and include criminal penalties, imprisonment for up to five years and fines of up to twenty five thousand dollars (Morrison, 2009). Additionally, the office of the Inspector General, which is the investigative agent for the HHS, has the authority to enforce money penalties on any violators and to prohibit them from participating in any medical programs (Bauman, 2002). Given the extent of the abuse and fraud statute, there are many details of the law that have been stipulated in the courts that have broadly interpreted the statute (Bauman, 2002). According to the Center for Medicare & Medicaid services (2005), the leading cases indicate that if one several objectives of payments is to stimulate referrals, it is a violation of the abuse and fraud statute. Furthermore, when referrals must be the main reason of a transaction in orders to amount to a breach, referrals still need to be the sole purpose. In the year 1991, HHS released the safe harbor regulations that described eleven exemptions from the abuse and fraud statute (Altshuler, Creekpaum & Fang, 2008). Furthermore, the arrangements that satisfy the safe harbor provisions are normally protected from the scrutiny. In the large business safe harbor, the entity possesses over fifty million dollars in undepreciated net tangible assets, which are related to certain medical programs such as Medicaid. In the Feldstein’s case, there is an issue of whether physician or doctor recruitment can be immune from any legal attack because of a possible violation of abuse of laws and federal fraud. Unlike other abuse opinions and federal fraud cases, the facts of this case did not involve any kind of corruption. In addition to this, the facts of the Feldstein case are significant because they are a common occurrence in the medical field. Additionally, in this case, when the defendants acquired the control of the hospital, they had attempted to terminate the doctor’s contract because they were of the view that the doctor’s physician recruitment agreements had violated the federal fraud stipulations as well as abuse law. Classical Music in Pop Culture Essay

There may just be a glimpse of good news for the music front. Recently I’ve heard numerous television commercials using pieces of classical music to display the message. Two of them, it must be stated, were for the same product, one of those so called daily vitamins. One had a piece of Wagner – the theme from Die Walkure – and the other accented a melody from Mozart’s Die Zauberflote. Actual operas, please note. And then another commercial for a table seasoning, set in a restaurant, had Bach’s BrandenBurg Concerto No. playing in the background. Could it be that a couple of advertising people have determined that pop music has lost some of its demand? I am lost in how these people go about determining what music to use, but it seems luminous that they would want whatever they choose to support the product image and not defer the people to whom they are trying to sell it. Yes, it is entirely possible to use music sarcastically , and perhaps thatâ€⠄¢s what is going on here. But to use a piece of Mozart sarcastically is still to expose the audience to a piece of Mozart, which in the normal way of things they may not encounter nywhere else. It’s hard to see how good this is but it can’t be that bad. Except for a single double sided cassette of Beethoven(which I accidently taped over one day) there was no classical music in the house when I was coming up. Whatever of that type of music I heard, I heard from television. And by â€Å"television† I don’t mean the likes of â€Å"Matlock. † No, my earliest introduction to music of the serious sort was from the soundtrack of cartoons. The animation studios of Walt Disney and Warner Brothers, among others drew freely on the library of fine music as background and sometimes even as foreground, as for xample when Bugs Bunny or Elmer Fudd appeared as the conductor of a symphony orchestra. Even when Bugs was the subversive rather than the highbrow, the music came through. I didnâ₠¬â„¢t hear too much in school, either which is a shame. As I recollect the musical interludes in school consisted of taking out little books of songs and singing â€Å"Jack and Jill† and other similar songs. Some kids played in the band and soaked up some music that way; being the class clown and lack of interest at the time, rendered me unfit for that path. But eventually I grew an interest in the drums and arching music, and started watching DCI(Drum Corps International), videos on YouTube. Doesn’t it seem, though, that good music is something that might be included into the school day? It does not have to be studied academically or formally â€Å"appreciated. † Just made available, as one might play little league football. Start early enough, and maybe boys won’t pretend to be sick at the sound of a violin. I’ve seen a couple of new commercials and they do succeed in making me take notice. I’m not going to buy those vitamin or the table seasonings, but I hope those who are inclined to do so wil l form a ositive association with some good music. Writing this paper I was really forced to think about classical music and not only is relevance in pop culture but also its contribution to pop culture. So I started my research and started seeing a lot about classical music and therapy. By the minute classical music is being incorporated into mainstream society. According to a research published in a alternative therapy medicine issue of the Journal of Clinical Nursing, classical music can reduce psychological stress among pregnant women. Researchers at the college nursing program at Kaohsiung Medical University conducted a study in which they randomly assigned a group of women to classical music group and another to a country music group. â€Å"the classical music group showed significant reductions in stress, anxiety, and depression after just two weeks, using three established measurement scales†(Chung-Hey). Followed by â€Å"in comparison, the country music group showed a much smaller reduction in stress while there anxiety and depression scores showed little or no improvement.

Fagin lives off of a small side alley, in what can only be described as a furnished squat. A few beds, shelves and cupboards decorated the rooms but the main abundance within the rooms were handkerchiefs. Although Oliver did not know it, they were all stolen. Fagin also had a collection of jewellery which Oliver saw one morning, but Fagin dismissed it as his worldly possessions. This was home to Fagin and his gang of pickpockets, which were boys, some not much older than Oliver. They had all be trained to work for Fagin and, judging by the resulting rewards, were very good at what they did. Instead of being homeless, starving and eventually dying the boys had dived into a world of crime to stay alive and provide a warm home for themselves. For such children, and that is what they all still were, it shows great poverty and deprivation. Oliver was taken out with Jack Dawkins and Charley Bates to learn his new found trade, although they were foiled and Oliver got caught, although his innocence in the act was later proved. The man that had been robbed, Mr. Brownlow, took pity upon Oliver and took him in to look after him as Oliver had fallen ill. The illness was probably the result of the long journey to London, which he had undergone on foot. In contrast to his previous experiences, Oliver was well looked after, fed and cared for. He lay in bed for a few days, being nursed on and checked and fed regularly. All this, against what would most probably have been the case of neglection at the workhouse and death quickly afterwards. In summary, because of his background and situation, Oliver was taken advantage of time and time again. It seems that children were shown no mercy and used for financial and personal gain. Mrs. Mann, the Board and Fagin all tried to use Oliver to increase their own quality of life and boost their financial income. This shows how cruel and ruthless situations were and the social deprivation that Oliver was forced through, like so many other orphans. Conditions were harsh for those at the bottom end of the social ladder and Dickens illustrates this well throughout the novel, as well as offering a contrast to these conditions with the rich Mr. Brownlow and his kind and generous personality. Along the way, he was the only person that showed trust of any kind towards Oliver and offered him a chance to repay that trust, which eventually he did.

They use their sense of smell to find fermenting produce and will fly to their target with little regard for their own safety. Apple cider vinegar has just the right aroma of rotting fruit to attract their attention. Thats why a vinegar trap is so effective. The trap is designed to lure the fruit flies in and to prevent them from escaping. What Youll Need to Make a Vinegar Trap To make a vinegar trap for fruit flies, youll need just a few things (you probably already have most of them in your home): a glass or cupa plastic baggie large enough to fit over the glassa rubber bandscissorsapple cider vinegar How to Make a Vinegar Trap Pour a small amount- an inch or so- of apple cider vinegar into the glass. The cider vinegar has a nice, fruity aroma that fruit flies simply cannot resist.Using the scissors, snip the corner off the plastic baggie. This should create  a hole just large enough for fruit flies to pass through, but not so large that it will be easy for them to escape.Place the baggie over the glass, and position the hole youve cut over the center.Push the snipped corner down into the glass so the baggie forms a funnel in the glass  but doesnt touch the vinegar.Use the rubber band to secure the baggie to the glass. How to Use Your Vinegar Trap Place your vinegar trap in the area where you see the most fruit flies- likely near your garbage, produce bins,  compost container, or any area with produce, organic waste, or standing water. If you have a heavy fruit fly infestation, you might want to make several vinegar traps, and place them in your kitchen and in other rooms where fruit flies are present. Fruit flies will fly into the glass, pass through the hole in the baggie, and become trapped in the glass. Within a few days, you should notice an accumulation of dead fruit flies floating in the vinegar. Empty the trap as needed, and refill it with fresh apple cider vinegar. A few well-placed vinegar traps, along with good housekeeping practices to discourage fruit flies, should get your infestation under control quickly. To make your vinegar trap even more effective, add a few drops of liquid dish soap to the vinegar. This lowers the surface tension of the liquid in the trap, so the fruit flies have a lower chance of escaping before they drown.
